I’m baaaaaaccccckkkkkkk!!!!! Happy belated new years to u allz! I thoroughly enjoyed the vacation but I’m glad to be back home. I’m still sifting thru my bazillion photos from India and will post some of ‘em up soonish.
I gotta say, it felt good being unplugged … (basically) being on an internet fast for a month. You’d expect light years to go by and it’d take you forever just to see/hear all you’ve missed … let alone keep up with the new ish. But to my surprise with what I have skimmed, it seems like I didn’t miss too much while I was gone.
But there are few things that caught my attention:
Some of the best music news I read is that Prince is releasing out with 3 ALBUMS in 2009. As much as I didn’t like Planet Earth, I gotta have hopes for these. MPLSOUND (an electro-flavoured joint), Lotus Flow3r (a guitar-centered rock album), and his new protégé Bria Valente’s album Elixir (with Prince on the guitar and beats by Morris Hayes … supposed to be on some Sade tip). This mixtape was scheduled to be out before I left for India. I found it pretty funny to come back and find out it still wasn’t out. Just dropped yesterday. Worth downloading for sure (lots of great remixes on here) but I think this would’ve had a much bigger impact if it actually came out around the release date of 808s.

This is actually the first youtube I watched after my trip. We were still in Delhi, packing up, getting ready for the flight and my friend Jon comes across this. We were hysterically laughing and watching it repeatedly til his new in-laws walked in the room. D’oh! … Apple Q! Apple Q!

The BBC/PBS series The Story of India is now showing throughout January on PBS. (Thanks to Shannon for the heads up! Timing couldn’t have been better.) I remember my friend Sapna mentioning this last year but it wasn’t in the states yet (at least on the channels I get.) The first two episodes were pretty interesting. Looking forward to the rest.
